Hazel is without a doubt one of the sweetest dogs we have in the shelter, she is so sweet that you'll eyes will tear up when you meet her. She is just the perfect mixture of social, shy, playful, calm, small but exactly big enough. Our volunteers and employees have fell in love with her at the first blinks of her beautiful eyes. Hazel arrived to us with an ugly metal collar with a different name, when she was taken away from a person who was arrested by the police. Her previous human does not have a PPP license and we doubt that there is a stabile home environment in the concept either, however what we realise from Hazel herself and from the human's attempts to come visit her, that it is very unlikely she has ever been abused or badly treated - she is so lovely with humans and melts under your touch as you offer her caressing. At first she was not sure how to interact with other dogs, probably due to the lack of socialization experience, but she is kind, calm and nice when meeting other dogs, and in the shelter she always goes walking with a male friend, a similar Amstaff/Staffy boy. Hazel's eyes are such a beautiful color, and her fur is silky smooth, like velvet. She has so lovable little wrinkles around her nose, and he is very petite, so we are thinking she is probably a Staffordshire mix breed. She has so many different smiles, one more beautiful than the other, that if she would be a human, she should definitely work in customer service, because everyone would feel they receive the most friendly welcome. Hazel has also been out walking with families with children, and she is friendly with all humans, big or small. As she has this charming shyness, but not fearfulness, about her character, then she is also soft in approaching humans, not running them over, which makes us believe that she could very well live in a home also with smaller children, providing that the parents of the home are dog-educated and the children are also educated to be respectful of dogs as animals, their boundaries and needs. Hazel could be a second dog in a home or also an only dog. In Spain, adopting Hazel would require a PPP registration, which the shelter will help adopters with, however, Hazel is also available for international adoptions. She is only 49cm high and 17kg light.
